The Jubilee Party is planning to set up a vote tallying system that will run parallel with the IEBC tallying system.
In what is radical U-turn on its initial stand on parallel counting of the presidential results, President Kenyatta’s camp is putting in place these systems to ensure they keep a keen eye on the votes.
The system, according to reports will collect, verify, tally and relay the Presidential results.
The move comes as a surprise, especially after the ruling coalition fought Nasa’s plan to set up a parallel centre for the sole purpose of verifying results.
Jubilee leaders including Deputy President William Ruto had hit out at Nasa’s parallel tallying plans, saying they were a recipe for chaos.
“It is now obvious the Opposition has no formula for winning because they have no agenda, no candidate. They want to have a shortcut to win by planning to establish a parallel tallying centre to announce results for themselves as winners,” Ruto chided them in April.
According to the Star, a group in the larger organizing team met over the weekend in Naivasha, to strategise on the sytem.
Among the key strategists who travelled to Naivasha on Saturday were National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi, Solicitor General Njee Muturi, Deputy President William Ruto’s aide Farouk Kibet and former Energy Cabinet Secretary Davis Chirchir.
