The Jubilee party might not use smart cards during its nominations slated to take place between April 20-30.
Addressing hundreds of Jubilee, National Election Board commissioner Aden Noor Ali said the smart cards might only be used in areas where other rival parties have a huge following.
“Areas like Nairobi there are a size-able number of Nasa supporters and to ensure only Jubilee party members take part in the nominations then we might just be forced to use the smart cards but in places like here where we know almost everyone is our supporter there will be no need for a smart card,” said Noor. However, when he addressed the press after the exercise, Noor said they are yet to decide on whether to use smart cards or not but noted that all Jubilee party members will vote during the nominations.“We will tell whether we will use or not when the right time comes. This is our secret weapon. Smart cards are our identity and all I can assure now is that every Jubilee member will vote,” he said. There has been calls for the Jubilee party not to use smart cards during its nominations with aspirants claiming the card's distribution was skewed to favor a few individuals.
