Lamu Women Rep Shakila Abdalla has accused the Jubilee leadership of hatching a plot to evict residents to create space for foreigners. The legislator, claimed she is aware of a plot to evict residents from different parts of Lamu after the August 8 polls.Addressing journalists in Lamu on Monday, Shakila claimed there are five schemes that have been earmarked by the current leadership for eviction after the upcoming elections. She claimed that a section of leaders, whom she did not mention, have been paid to ensure the eviction is successful. “We are aware the Jubilee government plans to re-introduce schemes here in Lamu. They want to drive out locals and bring in their own people from other parts of the country. That’s the promise they have made to those people that our lands will be their pay,” said Shakila, as quoted by Baraka FM.The Women Rep accused President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto of not having the interests of Lamu residents at heart, claiming that they only intend to use them to rise to power.“It is obvious that the Jubilee government doesn’t have good intentions for Lamu. You can imagine that apart from forcing the coal plant on us, they are also planning to reintroduce schemes and we know what that means,” she said. Shakila, who is the Wiper Party deputy leader, further claimed that the exercise will see more foreigners taking up large tracts of land in the region. She said the only way to counter the plan is to vote out the current leadership on August 8.“If the people of Lamu don’t wake up and send jubilee home, then we must be prepared to suffer,” she said.
