Jubilee Mombasa gubernatorial candidate Suleiman Shahbal has dismissed claims that Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) soldiers are training at one of property his Shanzu.
Speaking on Tuesday, Shahbal termed the allegations as mere propaganda by his opponents. This comes after Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho on Saturday claimed that KDF officers are using Shahbal’s premises, which used to house the Braeburn School, for training in readiness for the elections. The outspoken governor challenged the government to explain what was taking place at the said compound. He claimed that people suspected to be soldiers were frequenting the premises, adding that food had been seen being taken in out of the compound, The Star reports."The government should come clean and explain what is happening,” said Joho.Shahbal, however, downplayed Joho’s claims saying that the compound will house a technical college which will enroll about 600 youth after the August polls.“We had made these arrangements a longtime ago, but it was to start immediately after the elections,” said Shahbal.“The place is a peaceful environment. It is a college we have started. That is just stupid worry (from Joho). There are rumours with a basis and baseless rumours. Those are baseless rumours,” he added, as quoted by the daily.Last week Friday, NASA presidential candidate Raila Odinga alleged that military officers were being trained to rig the polls in favour of Jubilee.
