A Jubilee politician has dismissed calls for the formation of a Coast region political party.Taita Taveta County Jubilee coordinator Valentine Kwamboka termed the move as 'backwardness', saying the leaders and residents would not back the formation of such an outfit."We cannot form a regional party when other regions are folding their parties to join national parties. Forming such a party would be equal to supporting secession calls which majority of the people have rejected," said Kwamboka on Wednesday. Her remarks come after former Taita Taveta Governor John Mruttu over the weekend formed a five-member committee to oversee the party formation agenda.Mruttu argued that the Coast region had received a raw deal by being affiliated to parties from other regions."For us to have a strong bargaining power then we must look for a vessel to champion for the change we would like to see," said Mruttu on Sunday.Speaking during a consultative forum with residents at Savannah Inn in Voi, the ex-county boss accused Jubilee and opposition NASA coalition of abandoning the region despite receiving overwhelming support during last year's elections."It is time for the Coast people to position ourselves to bargain for a fair stake in national politics," said Mruttu. Is there a newsworthy accident, incident or event happening in Mombasa County that you want Hivisasa to cover?
