Ford Kenya deputy party leader Bonny Khalwale has accused president Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee administration of protecting top Kenya Defense Forces (KDF) officials as they allegedly engage in illegal businesses.
This follows an Al-Shabaab attack against a KDF base in Kolbiyow, Lower Juba in Somalia, Friday morning.
Al-Shabaab claimed they killed 57 Kenyan soldiers, but the Ministry of Defence, through Head of Public Affairs Lieutenant Colonel Paul Njuguna, dismissed the reports.
Khalwale who is also the Kakamega senator, called for the immediate withdrawal of KDF troops from the peace keeping mission in the country, under the Africa Mission in Somalia (Amisom).
According to him, Jubilee administration has been supporting the mission, so as to shield top KDF bosses who smuggle charcoal and sugar to Somalia.
"Our boys are being killed in Somalia yet the government is doing nothing. We want our boys brought back to the Country,'' he said.
"We can not sacrifice our boys just because the government is protecting KDF bosses engaging in illegal businesses of smuggling sugar and charcoal,'' he added.
Khalwale was speaking when he alongside Ford Kenya party leader Bungoma senator Moses Wetangula and Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa, toured Busia County for mass voter registration campaign.
The Opposition has been calling for immediate withdrawal of KDF troops from Somalia, but Uhuru has been vocal, that they will continue ensuring peace sustains in the neighbouring nation.
