The Luo community in Mombasa has faulted the Jubilee Party for pushing for manual identification of voters.
The community spokesman, Onyony Mwalimu, claimed that the party plans to rig the 2017 polls using 'ghost voters'.
He urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to use the electronic voter identification system to ensure free and fair elections.
Onyony cited a case in Nigeria in which seven million voters were removed from the voting population after the electronic system was adopted in the country.
He also gave an example of Ghana where the electoral body locked out 1.5 million fake voters from taking part in elections, following the replacement of the manual system with an electronic one.
Onyony said the electronic system prevents babies as well as dead persons from taking part in the elections.
“The system excludes all babies and dead people from registration and automatically improves the integrity of the register,” he said, as quoted by The Star.
He said Kenya should borrow a leaf from Nigeria and Ghana.
“Learning from our brothers, Nigeria registered 73.5 million voters in 23 days. It had initially been planned for 14 days. Ghana registered 11 million people in 40 days,” he said.
