Jubilee Party leaders are now accusing the National Super Alliance (NASA) of intimidating independent institutions ahead of August elections.

While addressing a news conference at Parliament Buildings on Monday, the leaders from the ruling coalition claimed threats by NASA to boycott the forthcoming polls could end up triggering electoral violence.

Led by Senate Majority Leader Kithure Kindiki, they said the Opposition's warning that it would not take part in the elections over a dispute pending before court was part of a plan to set the country on the path to anarchy.

“Raila Odinga and NASA have embarked on an unlawful, contemptuous, dangerous confrontation with IEBC over a matter that is before the courts. Every time the Opposition feels the heat is too much, it resorts to intimidation and violence. The same NASA forced us to replace IEBC commissioners. As Jubilee, we acceded because we wanted to avoid loss of lives. The same NASA is now intimidating IEBC and the Judiciary,” said Kindiki as quoted by the Standard.

The reactions by Jubilee comes a day after the Opposition coalition threatened to boycott the August 8 elections if IEBC does not withdraw the appeal they said was a plot to introduce vote rigging.

“We shall not accept to have the courts change the earlier decision. There will be no elections in Kenya if it is changed. That will not be our election, but theirs as it will not be under Kenyan law or Constitution,” ODM leader Raila Odinga said on Sunday during a NASA rally at Afraha Stadium in Nakuru.

On his part, Nominated MP Johnson Sakaja noted that as a national leader, Raila Odinga should be ensuring that Kenyans grow their faith and confidence in independent institutions.

“If we discard the rule of law in this country, then we will have nothing else to hold on to,” warned Sakaja.
