Nairobi senator and gubernatorial aspirant Mike Sonko could be locked out of the Jubilee Party nominations process set to be conducted in Nairobi in April.
The party has said it could take the measure over Sonko's 'indiscipline' that has allegedly 'tainted the image of the party' among Kenyans and disrupted internal party operations.
According to Nation, Sonko is among four politicians including Murang'a governor Mwangi wa Iria, Kirinyaga counterpart Joseph Ndathi and Nakuru East MP David Gikaria whom the party accuses of causing violence in the just-concluded process of selecting County Elections Boards (CEBs).
The four have already been summoned and risk suspension or a total ban from participating in any election under Jubilee's umbrella.
“Incidences of violence were reported in a number of counties but we witnessed aggravated assault against the party officials and damage to property in Murang’a, Nairobi and Nakuru Counties,” said Jubilee Secretary General Raphael Tuju.
“The disciplinary committee has therefore issued summons to the members who have been named in the complaints. These summons shall be served upon these members setting out the date, venue and time when they should defend themselves,” he added.
Sonko is reported to have clashed with supporters of Starehe MP Maina Kamanda who supports Peter Kenneth for Nairobi governor instead of him (Sonko).
The four are set to face Jubilee's disciplinary committee headed by chairman Lumatete Muchai who has promised fair hearing.
