The government has been asked to investigate the cause of mass failures that was witnessed in this year's Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) examination.
Nandi Senator Samson Kiptrotich Cherargei says its worrying that majority of candidates who sat for the KCSE cannot proceed to institutions of higher learning.Speaking at Mosoriot on Tuesday, Cherargei said there is need for the cause of the mass failure to be looked into.
"It is not good for schools to churn out many students who can neither join universities nor take up other courses," said the youthful Senator.
"The root cause of mass failures should be addressed," he added.
The Jubilee allied senator, however, defended Education Cabinet Secretary Dr Fred Matiang'i over the failures saying he is simply doing his job by "implementing reforms in the education sector."
Since the release of KCSE results last week, various stakeholders have raised questions over its credibility after more than half the candidates failed. At least 350,000 students obtained grades D and below, which cuts them off from pursuing any professional course.
