Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has said that the IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati is a top risk to national security and must be removed from the commission.
Speaking on Hot 96 FM on Wednesday, the Senate majority leader said that Chebukati has created conditions that he must resign adding that he had lost credibility in 2017 general elections.
“Chebukati has created conditions that he must go. Chebukati is among the top five risks to national security. And I am saying this because the behavior of Chebukati between August 8 and October 26 was such that he lost all the credibility for him to continue leading that organization,” noted the senator.
He also said that letting Chebukati run the election commission is putting the country in a great danger adding that he his leadership skills have never been tested.
The senator who is also a close ally to deputy president Willian Ruto cited that Chebukati was only a chairman of a club and runs a law firm.
“If you have such a person preparing for a general election of a country, you are actually putting your country in a danger. Chebukati history in terms of leadership is zero and the only thing I heard if that he chaired a club somewhere and run a law firm,” said Murkomen.
