Lamu senator Anwar Loititip has declared total war on drug barons in the the county and the  larger Coast region.

Loitiptip says that he is going to name and shame wealthy business people and politician's allegedly peddling drugs.

Speaking to journalists in Lamu Town on Monday, the  senator said that drug abuse remains a serious issue in Lamu  and the larger Coast region.

He claimed that wealthy individual's are selling drugs to innocent young people and using the proceeds to build palatial homes and fund  investment's.

The Jubilee senator said that he has a list of people who are in the trade and will shame them if they do not stop the illicit businesses.

“I am not going to sit back and watch innocent lives being destroyed by people who have much appetite for money,” he said.

The senator asked the police to up their game and help nail the barons who he said have condemned innocent lives to misery.

Loitiptip said that  Lamu has remained poor and lagged behind in development because its youthful population has been destroyed by drugs.

He vowed to push for stiffer and punitive laws to tame drugs and substance abuse.

The senator also pledged to work with the national government in taming the menace.

In 2015, President Uhuru Kenyatta declared war on drugs barons saying that they not be tolerated.

Uhuru said that his government will freeze assets of all people linked to drug syndicates in coast and others parts of the country.
