West Pokot Senator Samuel Poghisio has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to allow Raila Odinga and Kalonzo Musyoka to go on with their his Tuesday swearing in as the people's president and deputy respectively.
The former cabinet minister wants Uhuru to let Raila swear himself noting that his coronation remains 'meaningless'.
Speaking on NTV's AM Live on Monday, Poghisio said that Raila does not have the instruments of power and state machinery of a president.
He further said that the former Prime Minister's Tuesday swearing in is not backed by the constitution.
“The police should allow Raila to swear himself as the people’s president because the event itself means nothing as Uhuru Kenyatta is the legally elected president of the Republic of Kenya ,” he said.
He said that Raila will gain more fame if police engages him in running battles on Tuesday.
The KANU senator claimed that Raila's agenda is to get international sympathy and support through his planned illegal swearing in.
NASA says that plans to swear in Raila and Kalonzo at Uhuru Park on Tuesday are complete. The opposition leaders have said that they are not afraid of death as the government declares the swearing in illegal and highly treasonous.
On Sunday, Nairobi police boss Japheth Koome said that police will not entertain anyone at Uhuru Park. Koome said that the Uhuru Park remains closed to the public as earlier indicated by the Nairobi county government.
