Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi has asked NASA leader Raila Odinga to shelve the planned anti-IEBC demonstrations and allow relevant agencies to investigate the alleged irregularities that led to the bungled August 8 polls.
Wamatangi says that Raila's calls for demonstrations is gateway to political tension and chaos.
Speaking to journalists after a church service at the St Stephen ACK church in Ngoingwa, Thika on Sunday, and Wamatangi said that there is a state of fear in the country following NASAs call for protests.
He said that protests should be last resort, adding that NASA grievances can be handled by the relevant government agencies.
“I want to tell NASA leaders to stop this demonstration thing and use the right channels to air their grievances,” he said as quoted by the Standard.
Wamatangi said that the DPP has taken up the matter on irregularities and illegalities that led to the nullification of the results and NASA should allow for investigations before pushing for the removal of certain officers.
He accused NASA of blindly blaming certain individuals for the bungled August 8 election without any supporting evidence.
NASA is pushing for the removal of IEBC CEO Ezra Chiloba and other officials who it says were behind the bungled August 8 presidential election.
The opposition has called for peaceful protests outside IEBC offices at Anniversary Towers starting Tuesday.
On Friday last week, the Director of Public Prosecutions Keriako Tobiko ordered the Director of Criminal Investigation (DCI) and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to investigate IEBC officials and staff over the illegalities and irregularities that led to the nullification of the August 8 presidential election by the Supreme Court.
