Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has warned the opposition leader Raila Odinga against using the handshake to shortchange Deputy President William Ruto ahead of the 2022 polls.
The Jubilee party Senator said the handshake between President Uhuru Kenyata and Odinga was only meant to foster peace and bringing Kenyans together and not for the 2022 succession politics.
"I want to categorically tell my friend Raila Odinga not to use the famous handshake to try to ascend to power through the back door since as leaders from this region we will not allow that," said Senator Cherargei in Eldoret town, Saturday.
The youthful Senator reiterated that Jubilee party already has a presidential candidate for the coming general elections but also asked DP Ruto to handle opposition chief with a lot of caution as he is not a trusted person
He also told off the opposition who are pushing for a referendum saying "Kenyans are tired of politics and it is time to work for them."
"Raila should stop using the handshake to call for a referendum for him to be given the Prime Minister post," said the Senator.
"The Jubilee administration is trying to implement the big four agenda while the opposition leaders are playing politics. As leaders from the North Rift region, we will not allow the country to be taken back into the electioneering period," he added.
