Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot has dismissed allegations by the opposition that its presidential candidate Raila Odinga was being trailed by military-trained police officers.

On Tuesday, in a press conference in Nairobi, Siaya Senator James Orengo claimed that eight officers who have been trained for two months in Wajir were trailing the NASA leader.

"These officers are using police vehicles with non-GK number plates that keep changing. They were relocated to Kiambu on an unspecified mission," Orengo said.

Orengo said President Uhuru Kenyatta and the Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet will be held responsible for security lapses and challenges that affect Raila.

But Cheruiyot took a swipe at the Opposition alliance saying the alleged officers, if any, were not after Raila but his campaign financiers.

“If there are security personnel trailing Raila, then they are after the corrupt cartels we have been told are financing NASA campaigns,” Cheruiyot said.

The Senator told NASA leaders to dissociate themselves with their alleged financiers so they can stop being trailed by police.

"NASA principals and leaders need to shed off corrupt cartels to avoid being followed by police," remarked Cheruiyot on Wednesday during an event in Bomet County.

It is alleged that Nairobi billionaire Jimmy Wanjigi is funding the Opposition alliance campaigns in return to get tenders for mega-projects worth billions of shillings if NASA wins August elections.
