Nandi Senator Samson Cherargei has urged the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to conduct a thorough investigation into the maize scandal.
Cherargei said resigning and sending National Cereals and Produce Board (NCPB) officials on leave won't help farmers who have waited for their dues for several months now.
“I urge the EACC and DCI to fast-track their investigation into the NCPB maize scandal and bring to book those involved,” said Cherargei in Eldoret town, Wednesday.
The vocal Jubilee Senator said those found guilty should be forced to return back the amount of money lost and their assets frozen.
“As the investigations are going, on NCPB and the Ministry of Agriculture should pay genuine small-scale farmers from the North Rift their dues since some of them have developed high blood pressures due to loans and fees they are supposed to pay yet the government has not paid them,” said Cherargei.
He noted Kenyans are tired of rhetoric and want to see some people involved in corruption charged in a court of law.
Cherargei revealed that he will sponsor a bill in the Senate that will ensure farmers' welfare is protected.
