A few hours after the departure of NASA leaders from Gusii stadium, demonstrations locked the South Nyanzan town as protestors declared the region a Jubilee zone.

It was a typical revenge following an incident in which ODM supporters took to streets when President Uhuru Kenyatta visited the region last month.

And in a region that has been zoned by Jubilee as tossup, ODM leader Raila Odinga had earlier dismissed Jubilee’s penetration to the zone and promised an emphatic victory.

Trouble started moments the NASA leaders left after addressing a mammoth crowd that had endured heavy rains to listen to them.

“This is a Jubilee zone and we are tired with opposition antics. They are making our region to lag behind,” said Douglas Ogari, a Jubilee youth leader.

He added: “we wanted to show that that what they can do, we are better at it and that is a fact.”

Prior to the rally, Odinga had received embattled Deputy Governor Joash Maangi, who had initially become a darling of Jubilee government.

With elections few months away, the region is not only likely to experience fierce completion in the presidential race but also Governorship where incumbent James Ongwae is set to face Jubilee’s Chris Obure.
