Hundreds of elated Jubilee supporters on Monday poured into the streets of Garissa town to celebrate the Supreme Court ruling that unanimously upheld the election of President Uhuru Kenyatta during the repeat presidential polls of October 26.
Chanting slogans and songs in praise of President Uhuru Kenyatta, the supporters who comprised mainly of young men and women, said the ruling was a win for all Kenyans.
Addressing the press at a Garissa hotel leaders from the area said the elections ‘are behind us’ and Kenyans should embark on nation-building and uniting the divided country.
Marian Hussein a political activist said the ruling took into consideration the interest of the country and applauded chief justice David Maraga and his team for their ‘wise decision’.
“Kenyans should put aside their political differences and co-exist peacefully. Livestock marketing council chair Dubat Amey said Kenya is one indivisible nation and those who lost accept defeat and ‘wait for their God-given turn,” Said Marian.
Margret Wangari a Garissa based businesswoman said the protracted elections had affected their business and today’s ruling will give Kenyans ‘a break to pick up their pieces and return to their normal lives’.
And speaking to the press on phone, Bura MP Ali Wario said it now time for NASA leader Raila Odinga to accept the Supreme Court and join the ranks of retired president Moi, Kibaki as senior citizens.
“We are ready as the parliament to prepare a good retirement package for the former prime minister. But he should first agree to retire from active politics,” Wario said.
NASA has insisted that they will recognize Uhuru Kenyatta’s presidency.
