Two vehicles hired by Jubilee Party for campaigns within Mandera County were Monday hijacked by Al-Shabaab militants.
The militants are said to have crossed into Kenya through the porus Somali border.
According to eye witnesses, the Al Shabaab operatives pretended to ask for a lift aboard the vehicles but took the drivers hostage.
The vehicles together with the drivers were driven about 10km into Somalia.
The drivers were later released but the assailants made away with the vehicles.
The vehicles are said to have been headed for El Wak region.
Mandera region has in the past witnessed attacks from the Somali based group.
This has forced the government to impose a curfew in the town.
