Shortly after Tourism CS Najib Balala said that he was not interested in the Mombasa gubernatorial seat, Jubilee leaders in Mombasa are now considering picking between Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko and former Kisauni MP Ananiah Mwaboza to vie for the seat.
A source privy to the inner circle of the Jubilee management who spoke on condition of anonymity said the coalition was not comfortable with supporting prominent businessman Suleiman Shahbal and was weighing between the two.
The claims could neither be confirmed nor denied by Jubilee Mombasa Chairman Ali Mwatsau who said they would not lock out Sonko if he declared interest in vying for the seat.
"Sonko is a man of the people and we are sure if he is to vie, he would win by a land slide. We therefore would feel at home working with him than any other aspirant," said Mwatsau.
Mwatsau also confirmed that Sonko had made several trips to the county to meet Jubilee leaders.
