Bomet governor Isaac Rutto has said that he was propelled to join the opposition NASA coalition because it shared the CCM ideals unlike Jubilee which he accused of repelling others.
Speaking when he announced his union with the new opposition coalition, the Chama Cha Mashinani leader revealed that he met obstacles when he tried to get a pre-election pact with Jubilee.
He accused Jubilee of not being accommodative and said it did not easily receive ideas from others.
“Jubilee proved hostile to us and we cannot force ourselves on them. NASA shares similar ideals with CCM and has agreed to ensure counties gets 45 percent of revenue,” Rutto revealed after meeting Bomet elders and professionals.
His latest move to join the opposition is seen to be a demonstration of his determination to battle Deputy President William Ruto in a hot superiority battle in the vote-rich South Rift Valley.
However, Maasai Mara University lecturer and political analyst Kimutai Soi has criticised Rutto and said he is taking a tough path between success and failure.
"Governor Rutto is taking a political gamble that will either see him become the new political kingpin in the region — or be completely trashed into political oblivion. There is plenty of history to learn from,” he said.
