Deputy President William Ruto has said the Jubilee government will protect Kwale Governor Salim Mvurya from the opposition's onslaught.
This comes after Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho on Friday sued Mvurya for defamation.
Mvurya claimed that he had fallen out with Joho after he attempted to manipulate him in a bid to control different resources in Kwale.
However, Ruto claimed that Joho's suit against Mvurya was a way of punishing him for decamping from ODM to Jubilee.
Addressing residents at Diani Grounds in Kwale, Ruto said Mvurya did nothing wrong by defending his county's resources.
“Mvurya has been sued because he defended the rights of the people of Kwale and its resources including minerals. As a government, we are behind him and let him stand firm...will make sure that the rights of the Kwale people are protected,” said Ruto, as quoted by Standard.
On his part, Mvurya said he will not be cowed by the threats, and will always defend his people's rights.
