Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has said the 2022 presidential succession plan between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto will continue as planned.
Speaking on Radio Citizen's Debe La Citizen on Sunday, the Jubilee lawmaker rubbished claims that the plan will be affected by the newfound political romance between Kenyatta and opposition chief Raila Odinga.
This follows observations by a section of politicians and political commentators who have noted that the new found love could reflect on the 2022 presidential contest.
Ngunjiri maintained Jubilee leaders are keen on keeping their promise by fully backing Ruto's bid in the race for State House.
''The unity between the President and Raila remains inconsequential with regards to our initial agreement with William Ruto. I and my fellow Jubilee leaders will stick to our promise and support Ruto in 2022 despite the changes that might soon emerge,'' he said.
The duo has, however, since called for calm within the political class, urging leaders eyeing elective seats in the approaching polls to quit politicking and rally behind them in their joint national cohesion pursuit.
''Please drop the debate about 2022 because elections will always be there and join us as we to unite the country,'' said President Uhuru Kenyatta while addressing mourners during multiparty democracy icon Kenneth Matiba's farewell service in Murang'a on Thursday.
