Garissa Parliamentary seat aspirant Farah Maalim has claimed that Jubilee government wants to undermine Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho’s re-election in August and his 2022 presidential bid.
According to Maalim, Jubilee is using every machinery to lock Joho out of politics.
The former National Assembly deputy speaker alleges that Jubilee feels threatened by Joho’s political rise and wants to scuttle his political ambitions.
The Garissa parliamentary seat aspirant notes that Joho’s dominance in Coast politicians is causing jubilees sleepless nights.
“Jubilee feels threatened by Joho’s 2022 presidential ambition and wants to scuttle it,” he said.
The former National Assembly deputy speaker however said that they will fight any attempts by Jubilee to lock Joho out of the 2017 or 2022 general election.
He said that Jubilee is not justified to intimidate and harass a governor who has been elected by the people.
Governor Joho has been in the headlines in the recent days as he fights with the Jubilee government, and he is being investigated over alleged forgery of academic certificates.
He is also being probed by the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) over alleged tax related offenses.
Joho has been embroiled din public spats with President Uhuru Kenyatta in regards to development, accusing Uhuru’s administration of taking credit of projects launched by the national government.
On the other hand, Jubilee accuses Joho of disrespecting President Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy William Ruto.
Opposition leaders, led by ODM leader Raila Odinga have faulted and accused Jubilee government of using state machinery to fight Joho.
Raila has been quoted saying that they (opposition) will not watch as Joho is being humiliated by Uhuru’s administration.
On Sunday, Siaya Senator James Orengo threatened to sue President Kenyatta if his government continues to intimidate governor Joho.
