A tough battle is expected between ODM’s Kilifi Women Representative Aisha Jumwa and Jubilee’s Philip Charo in the Malindi parliamentary seat come August 8.This is after Charo secured the Jubilee party ticket for the constituency in the primaries that were held on Wednesday. The former Transport ministry advisor was declared the winner on Thursday after garnering 7,269 votes against his rival Peter Mwanana's 1,135 votes. In the ODM primaries that were held on Saturday, Jumwa won the party’s ticket to vie for the Malindi seat after beating the incumbent Willy Mtengo.Other contenders in the race are Wiper's Rashid Odhiambo and independent candidate Harry Mwimali.Charo expressed confidence that he was going to give Jumwa a run for her money in the August polls since his party has gained popularity in the region."Last year Jubilee Party was not popular ... now people are scrambling for the votes," said Charo, as quoted by The Star.
