The vocal senator who seeks to replace Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero said on Thursday that he will do all it takes to be on the ballot during the August 8 elections.

Sonko said NASA is an equal party as Jubilee and he would not mind using it as his political vehicle in the August polls. In Swahili he said: “NASA sio chama cha mashetani. Jubilee ni chama lakini wakinipiga vita nitaenda niwaachie mtu wao.”

Speaking on a local Swahili radio station, Sonko said that some persons linked to Starehe MP Maina Kamanda wanted to prevent him from accessing Bomas of Kenya when the party was conducting its county board elections. He said police later aided his access.

He was summoned by the party’s disciplinary committee after his supporters and those of his rival Peter Kenneth clashed after Sonko’s (Team Nairobi) side alleged that the secretariat had a list of preferred members of the board.

The Senator insisted that he will not work with his bitter rival Peter Kenneth. Kenneth has been branded a stranger in Nairobi County politics but at the same time perceived to be having the grace of top Jubilee leadership.

Observers say Sonko’s following especially in the slum areas of the city would give ODM’s Evans Kidero a run for his money if he successfully gets Jubilee ticket.

Sonko has fears that his opponents want to rig him out during the April primaries.  To curb this, the flamboyant senator said he will plant 300 youths at every polling station in Nairobi.

Jubilee holds its primaries on April 21.
