Deputy President William Ruto has rubbished claims that the Jubilee government's vigor against drug trade at the coast has hidden political purposes.
Replying to questions from the members of the press after a closed-door meeting with security officials from the coastal region in Mombasa on Monday, the DP said that the government have always been fully involved in the fight against drugs since assuming office in 2013.
''Our war against drug barons has been consistent since we took office and it is going to escalate even more.We are doing this because it is our mandate and not because of the approaching elections. Both last year and the year before the President destroyed shipments of drugs this showing you how serious we are on this matter. We are also ready and willing to continue with the same," said Ruto.
Ruto further maintained that the government will not relent until all the barons are brought to book.
''This is a war that we must win no matter what it takes or costs. We are ready to engage the criminals and deal with them firmly without looking at the crowds they have around them," added Ruto.
