Three suspected inmates who allegedly murdered Kisumu's serial killer Harrison Okumu have appeared before Justice Hilary Chemitei this morning at the Kisumu High Court.

The suspects, Dennis Ombese Kebati, Samson Matoke Machoka and Douglas Onyancha were charged with the murder that happened last week on Wednesday at Kodiaga Main prison.

The prosecution said that the three suspects cannot take plea without undergoing medical assessment by a doctor.

Justice Chemitei said that the three suspects should undergo a medical assessment on June 2 at Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Referral Hospital.

The prosecution said that the three suspects should be remanded at the Kodiaga Main Prison in Kisumu County before appearing in court on June 8 for a mention.

Okumu was strangled to death by inmates at Kodiaga regional prison. 

Officer-In-Charge of Kodiaga Prison, Aggrey Onyango said that Okumu was murdered by three inmates inside his cell between 5.15pm and 5.30pm on Wednesday last week.

Onyango said that the inmates were found hiding on top of the prison’s roof by officials following the incident in what seemed to be an escape attempt.
