Deputy President William Ruto has criticized courts accusing them of issuing bails to those that are supposed to have been convicted for corruption.
Speaking in Gilgil, he challenged the courts to play a bigger role in fighting corruption that is on the rise and is always hitting new heights with each passing day.
"We want to ask courts to explain how criminals can go to court, ask not to be prosecuted and they agree,” the DP said.
The DP has also urged those investigating the cases to do their work modestly to allow for court action as soon as possible.
“We are asking those dealing with investigations and prosecutions that they have no reason why they should not prosecute anybody, whatever connection they have because President Uhuru and I have given firm instructions on issues of corruption," he said.
He made mention of the National Cereals and Produce Board scandal assuring everyone that those who benefited from the scam and yet were not farmers will face the full force of the law regardless of who they are as they deprived farmers of their right.
“Those who know they are not farmers and bend the laws in collaboration with government offices to beat genuine maize farmers should be ready to face the law. These issues of corruption must come to an end. Those behind the corrupt activities must be held to account. They will not escape,” said the deputy president.
It remains to be seen how the judiciary moves towards fighting corruption after the Deputy President took a direct dig at their exploits.
