The Judiciary has called for complementary support from the state department of probation in the quest for equitable justice.
Deputy Chief Justice Philomena Mwilu said sustained cooperation between courts and the probation service is pivotal to the national bid for fairness, justice, and peace for Sustainable Social Development.Speaking during the commissioning of a three-day conference for 800 Probation officers drawn country on Friday, the Deputy Chief Justice said courts will leverage on a supportive probation service for effective correctional services of citizens charged with various offenses."An efficient probation service is invaluable in helping the state to effectively reform offenders who often return to courts as repeat offenders or head to over stretched prisons across the country," Mwilu said.Mwilu said "the two departments will continue to forge a working rapport that will enhance dispensation of justice within reasonable time and citizens requiring correctional services access them as is required."The sentiments were echoed by High Court Judge Luka Kimaru who chairs the Community Service Order committee whose mandate is scaling down enrollment to prisons and remand homes among people in Kenya.
