The Judiciary is planning to establish the Court of Appeal in two more counties of Nakuru and Uasin Gishu.
Justice Aggrey Muchelule said the Judiciary is constructing a Sh347 million court building that will house a High Court and the Court of Appeal in Nakuru.
Speaking in Nakuru on Thursday, Muchelule explained that the appellate court was not in the county because of lack of infrastructure.
He said once the building is complete, the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) will recruit judges and deploy to the new Court of Appeal station.
Justice Muchelule who is accompanied by Commissioner Prof Tom Ojienda on a one-week visit of courts in various counties to inspect court projects and meet county leaders and stakeholders in the justice chain said the Judiciary is sourcing for funds to construct another court building in Eldoret town to house a new Court of Appeal.
During the tour, the JSC Commissioners also inspected the construction of a Sh350 million High Court building in Kajiado, the Sh400 million High Court building in Kapenguria and the 2-acre land donated by the Nandi County Government for the construction of a High Court in Kapsabet town.
Justice Muchelule said the Judiciary has already advertised for the construction of the High Court building in Kapsabet town.
In Kapenguria, Prof John Lonyangapuo called on the Judiciary to establish courts in Sigor and Alale areas to bring justice closer to the people.
He said the entire county is served by only one court station adding that his administration has already donated land for the construction of the two court stations.
The new Kapenguria High court building that is being constructed at a cost of Sh400 million will have eight courtrooms, 11 chambers, spacious registries, separate cells for male, female and juveniles.
Justice Muchelule said once it is completed, the building will also house an Environment and Land Court Judge.
The court buildings and furniture, currently used by the Judiciary at Kapenguria, were donated by the county administration.
During the tour, the Commissioners also met Nandi and Trans Nzoia County Governors, Stephen Sang and Patrick Khaemba.
Today, the team will visit Eldoret and Iten Law Courts to meet with stakeholders, staff and judicial officers.
The Kajiado, Nakuru, Kapsabet and Kapenguria court projects are being funded by World Bank through the Judicial Performance Improvement Project (JPIP).
