A senate committee has urged the Judiciary to expedite the ruling over summoning governors to appear before the senate. Senate public accounts and investments committee chairman Boni Khalwale said the court injunction has affected the operation of the group. Khalwale said the injunction has caused much unrest in different counties in the country. “We have witnessed unrest in Makueni and Narok counties and as senate we wanted to summon these governors long ago to come and shed more light on their finances, we would not have witnessed such action,” he said. He said the issue of summoning the governors to the senate committee should be ruled as a matter of urgency. Speaking in Kisumu where committee members are writing a report on the auditor general's report on the transition period, Khalwale said the report writing was put on hold as a result of the court injunction on summoning governors. He said they have been unable to summon the county bosses to shed more light on their expenditure during the transition period September 2012 to June 2013. Khalwale said the committee resolved to come up with an interim report lest they be taken to court for going against the new constitution that gives them three months after receiving the auditor general’s report to act. Committee members present include senators Anyang Nyong'o, Amos Wako and Martha Wangari.
