The residents claim that the area has had insufficient food production due to the unfavourable weather conditions, leaving them exposed to starvation.

Gladys Wambui, a resident in Theta, said there could be more families going through hard times as a result of starvation. She warned that failure by the State to act quickly could escalate the problem, leading to more deaths.

“There are more families in the area going without food,” she said.

“We lost an elderly lady after she missed her meals for at least a week and that is why we are asking for a quick response.”

Area chief Peter Kamau refuted the claims, saying that no such a case has been reported far. He, however, said that his people were faced with hunger threats.

“Despite the fact that there is rampant food shortage in the area, I should confirm that no one has yet lost their lives to the situation,” Kamau said.

He asked the resident to avoid making claims that are not substantiated. He said that the State is already aware of the situation but no action has been taken yet.
