Juja sub-county environment officer Richard Irungu has warned residents of Juja’s Witeithie estate not to dump and dispose non-decomposable wastes in an indecent manner.
Speaking to our reporter in his office in Juja on Monday morning, the officer said that they have noticed that the residents are fond of disposing wastes anyhow, and that they lacked concern of conserving the environment.
He noted that the county government has marked the places which have previously been turned into dumpsites with signposts showing clearly that they were not dumpsites.
He cited the importance of the newly introduced county court to help in preserving the environment and also maintaining the county government laws.
“I want to inform the residents that we have launched the county court of late and anyone who violates the laws of this county will be charged in that court,” said Irungu.
“The laws include dumping and thus am appealing to everyone to make sure where he is living he has done thorough cleaning to ensure a clean environment,” added the officer.
Irungu particularly warned on the polythene bags as well as plastic containers that area non-decomposable, saying they posed a greater threat to the environment if not well disposed.
