Rehabilitation of dilapidated Juja Farm Road commenced on Tuesday after residents decrying its poor state for a long time.
The road has been at the centre of bad blood between residents and the local leaders. It was at the heart of demonstrations early last year.
Speaking on Friday at Premier Bags and Cordage playing grounds, area MP Francis Munyua had promised that road works will start before end month.
"I promised you to press hard for this road to be considered for rehabilitation by the government. Now I want to assure you that before the end of the month there will be tractors and earthmovers working on this road," said Munyua.
Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA) is rehabilitating the road.
Residents welcomed the move as the poor state of the road has denied them access to Thika Superhighway and to other facilities.
They said rehabilitation was timely as the rains have not started as the road becomes impassable.
"It has been very difficult working on this road for a long time. I want to urge the contractor to speed up the process as the road becomes impassable during rainy season," said Gacau Mathenge, Juja Farm route bodaboda operators chairman.
