A middle-aged unidentified man was found dead in a sewerage ditch in Witeithie estate of Juja sub-county on Tuesday afternoon.
According to the residents, a shopkeeper with a tendency of cleaning the ditches voluntarily as his shop is near them, noticed something hard in the ditch as he scoped mud from it.
He tried pulling with a spade in vain before getting gloves on and decided to get it out with his hands, thereby attracting a group of curious onlookers.
“I decided to use my hands when I noticed I couldn’t get it out with my hands, only to find out I was holding a person’s hand,” James Munene explained.
Confirming the incident, area police boss James Linguli said he was informed by the shocked residents and went at the scene with some officers who pulled out the body of the man.
He added that the deceased’s body seemed to have been there for some time.
Linguli said that the muddy body had severe cuts on the chest, back and on the neck – a clear indication that he had been attacked before he met his death.
Following the incident, the Thika sub-county police boss said that officers are investigating matter.
The body of the deceased was taken to Thika Level Five hospital mortuary.
