A legislator has called on Kiambu county government to give the public more time to pay their license fees.

Speaking from his office on Monday, Juja MP Francis Munyua said that the Kiambu government had given the public a very short time for paying the new fees.

He said the new fees are high thus making it hard for the business owners to pay them on time.

He added that the county government is supposed to sort out the double payments issues first before charging people fines for late payment.

Long queues have been experienced in Thika sub-county offices in the past week as the residents of Kiambu struggle to pay their dues after the closure of the period allowed by the county government.

Munyua said that he has received claims from the area residents that they had been promised a reduction since they double paid last year.

He said that since the government has reduced the levies the residents who paid double should be considered.

The Kiambu revenue officer has further been faulted for making some of the small scale business persons in Juja sub-county to close down their businesses due to harsh rules and fines that have been imposed on them after failing to meet the deadline.

“We have no business in Juja as these people have failed us. No investor wants to be in Juja as the business community has run away from the county's harsh charges,” said Munyua.
