The health and environmental supervisors in Juja sub-county have made good their threat to arrest residents caught disposing of waste in undesignated areas.
Witeithie estate residents were on Tuesday the first to be arrested after last week’s warning by the public health officer to cease disposing waste by the roadside.
The raid in the area saw 22 people who were found dumping waste at illegal dumping sites arrested.
Led by Juja sub-county environmental officer Richard Irungu, the officers said the warning had been issued by the public health officer, Madam Gakui, and action had to be taken.
“You were warned earlier by my colleague and it is now time to act. Anyone caught dumping in undesignated areas will be arrested and prosecuted,” he insisted.
The residents said the weekly door-to-door garbage collection is not efficient as it comes when they are out at work.
The suspects were taken to Juja police station before they are arraigned in court for breaching the environmental requirement.
