This comes after claims that the residents have lacked an appropriate water source after the Thika water company gave them an early warning that they are going to miss water for the next two weeks if the rains fail come soon.

There are claims that children and men in the area are now using the dumpsite water for bathing, since the piped water being provided by the water firm is insufficient.

Gakui said that the residents can get infected by diseases like cholera, typhoid and others as the water is not safe for human consumption.

“The water in the dumpsite is not safe for human consumption and it’s likely to result to an outbreak of diseases,” she said.

She added that the area has no public health facility and so there is need to tame the residents from infections like those to avoid congestion at Thika Level Five hospital.

Area MCA Peter Muiruri said that it ngestion at Thika Lis important to prevent rather than to cure and has plans to provide residents with 20 litres of water  each day if the rains fail to come.
