Witnesses said that the 2am fire consumed up everything in the kiosk, including clothes. They said that a combined effort of area residents stopped the fire from spreading to the neighbouring plot, which has also been constructed using timber.

Speaking at the scene, the kiosk owner, Gachaja Kinyua, said that he has never had a grudge with anyone that would give him a ‘punishment’ like the one he got.

“The only content in this kiosk was the clothes belonging to my customers,” Kinyua said.

“I would request the police to find the one behind this and make sure he faces the law. I don’t have any grudge with anyone that would guarantee anyone to punish me this way,” he added.

Confirming the incident, Thika sub-county deputy OCPD Mary Kiarie warned that the law will deal sternly with anyone perpetuating crimes in the area. She swore to bring all crime perpetrators to book.

“We will make sure we have arrested the people who are behind this fire and make them pay for their malicious and heinous acts,” she said.
