Former Citizen TV anchor Julie Gichuru has been attacked on Twitter for asking the people to allow the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) carry out their mandate.
The Africa Leadership Dialogues host asked that the electoral body officials be ‘guaranteed safety.’
This was after Chairman, Wafula Chebukati disclosed that his officials are being threatened and Commissioner Roselyn Akombe fled the country as she feared for her life.
Ms Gichuru also asked that the voter not be deprived of their right to vote on 26 October.
”The IEBC must be allowed to to their job. Their officers/staff must be guaranteed safety. The voter must not be disenfranchised,” she said.
Some Kenyans accused her of not speaking against police brutality witnessed in parts of Nyanza region.
Julie has been advocating for peace throughout the electioneering period but has been accused of being self serving for supporting President Uhuru Kenyatta’s re-election.
