Sam Chappatte, the Jumia managing director has said the online retail will next year put on trial the use of drones to deliver goods to customers.The manager during Black Friday concert said the test will be employed in the next two to three Years should it be successful.“Next year in Q1, we will try. Realistically it’s not a viable solution at this point due to its complexity, however, we will pilot it and see how it works out before adapting it in maybe two or three years to come,” he is quoted by the star.This comes a month after the Kenya Civil Aviation Authorities gazetted the Remote Piloted Aircraft Systems Regulations 2017 which allows Kenyans to use drones for filming and photography.Mr. Chappatte added that the use of drones will ease the process of delivering products whenever customers place their orders.He, however, outlined some of the challenges the project may face including the existing and the upcoming skyscrapers in the city, which he said will hinder smooth flying of the drones.Jumia is the leading online retail market in the Kenya.
