[Photo/Courtesy]The Jumuiya ya Kaunti za Pwani (JKP) has signed a co-operation agreement with Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) at the Technical University of Mombasa (TUM). The Sh19 million co-operation agreement seeks to enhance food security within the coastal region by promoting agriculture as well as health and sanitation.
The agreement will also set the Jumuiya ya Kaunti za Pwani on track towards the achievement of the Jumuiya 2030 long term regional development framework, as well as help develop the JKP 2017-2030 Gender Sensitive Food Security and Nutrition Implementation Plan.
Speaking during signing of the pact, Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho indicated: "As governors from the JKP, we will continue to cooperate closely with each other to better the lives of our people.''
''As heads of the Coastal Counties, we will work in unison with both state and non-state actors to ensure we better the lives of the Coastal people,'' said Kilifi governor Amason Kingi.Also present were governors from the JKP counties; John Mruttu (Taita Taveta), Hussein Dado (Tana River), Issa Timamy (Lamu), and Kwale’s Salim Mvurya. Also present was a delegation from FAO and TUM Acting Vice Chancellor (VC) Laila Abubakar and Deputy VC Joseph Rasowo.
TUM is expected to sustain the project by providing an independent and reliable university system through its School of Business, expert resources, to ensure development and implementation of the economic blue print and the food and nutrition strategy.
