Outspoken Kilifi Women Representative Aisha Jumwa will battle out with Malindi MP Willy Mtengo in parliamentary elections.
Mtengo, who replaced mining Cabinet Secretary Dan Kazungu in a hotly contested race, may have minimal chances against Jumwa, who has established herself in the Orange Democratic movement (ODM) party.
In her Facebook post on Wednesday, Jumwa confirmed having registered as a parliamentary aspirant with the ODM party.
“I have officially registered as an aspiring MP for Malindi constituency with the ODM party for 2017 elections. I believe that, my people will stand with me throughout the electioneering period,” she said.
“It is an open contest and I don’t regret doing it. This is politics and all of us should be always ready for different challenges,” she added.
Women MPs were elected to parliament for fulfillment of affirmative action plan and were recently awarded a kitty, which though is little that, the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) which is under management of MPs.
