Kilifi Woman Representative Aisha Jumwa has reignited the debate on the validity of the title deeds which the Jubilee administration has been issuing since 2013.
Addressing residents in Kilifi on Sunday, the outspoken legislator claimed that the Jubilee government was using the title deeds to achieve a political goal instead of addressing historical land injustices at the Coast.
Jumwa’s comments come barely a week after the High Court said over three million title deeds issued by the Jubilee administration since 2013 were irregularly processed, thus were illegal.
Jumwa said it is only the courts that can determine the authenticity of the title deeds, adding that the recent ruling shows that Kenyans have been cheated by the Jubilee administration using deeds which are not genuine.
She urged residents in the county to register in large numbers so as to oust Jubilee in August.
The thorny land issue was one of the main campaign items during the 2013 presidential elections, with the Coast region being one of the most hit by the perceived land injustices that the residents have had to grapple with.
In a quick response following the court’s ruling, Lands Cabinet Secretary Prof Jacob Kaimenyi said all title deeds which have been issued by his Ministry are genuine, adding that there is no cause for alarm.
