Kilifi Women Rep Aisha Jumwa and Malindi MP Willy Mtengo who are both eying the parliamentary seat have differed over the list of election officials ahead of Saturday’s nominations. The rivalry between the two aspirants took center stage when a new list of presiding officers and clerks selected to conduct the exercise was presented to them as opposed to the old ones that the party had trained, The Star reports.Jumwa, who addressed journalists on Wednesday, said that no candidate has the power to change the list of election officials as alleged by her rivals. She also said Mtengo’s claims are a clear sign that he has sensed defeat.“This is a sign of defeat. The role of aspirants is to campaign and mobilise supporters, not to panic over a list of clerks and presiding officers,” she said. Mtengo has insisted that the officials Governor Amazon Kingi had presented to the aspirants should be used during the exercise. Meanwhile, ODM leader Raila Odinga and his deputy Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho have assured aspirants of free and fair nominations.
