Malindi parliamentary seat bitter rivals, incumbent Willy Mtengo and Kilifi Women Representative Asha Jumwa, are busy strategising on their last-minute political maneuvers ahead of the ODM nominations which will kick off this coming Friday. The two political friends-turned-foes have been embroiled in a supremacy battle with their campaigns punctuated by personal attacks on each other.Jumwa who spent the better part of Sunday traversing the constituency in an aggressive campaign to win the party ticket claimed that Mtengo was planning to cause violence during the primaries to scare away voters with a view of being declared the winner.Mtengo has since refuted the claims saying he is carrying out his own campaigns knowing that he is facing a formidable opponent with a huge following.Mtengo was elected Malindi MP in a hotly-contested March 2016 by-election following the nomination of Dan Kazungu as Mining Cabinet Secretary with Jumwa alongside other ODM bigwigs in the Coast region carrying out aggressive campaigns pitching for Mtengo's election. However, the duo have since fallen out.The ODM election board in the county has since come out to allay fears that the party primaries will not be free and fair.
