Kilifi Women Representative Aisha Jumwa has now backed Education Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i to be new chairman of Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission.
Matiangi has been receiving praises across the political divide after administering national examinations without leakage for the first time in history.
With only nine months to national polls, the country is yet to appoint permanent IEBC commissionaires, months after Isaac Hassan led commission was bungled out office.
“Matiangi has done pretty well and is one of Uhuru Kenyatta’s Ministers who are doing well. He is quite focused to do his job without much political intrusion,” she wrote on her Facebook wall.
“He can do well should he be appointed IEBC chairman. We need fast results top satisfy every side of political divide in 2017 that is what everyone wants to see and I wish he applies,” she added.
Matiangi was first appointed ICT Minister in 2013 before being moved to Education docket that had witnessed a series of ups and downs and the leadership of Prof Jacob Kaimenyi.
