Suna East MP Junet Mohamed has accused the police of selectively arresting politicians claimed to be spreading hate among Kenyans.

Junet was arrested on Friday morning and arraigned before the Homa Bay Law Courts to answer to charges of hate speech and incitement to violence before being released on a Sh500,000 bond.

He said after the release that politicians from Jubilee spew more hate messages than those from the opposition and asked the police to stop intimidating NASA-allied leaders.

“I was taken to the police station and I asked them why they arrested me. They told me recently I had said Raila must become president of Kenya in 2017,” he said.

“I want to repeat it again that Raila must become president in 2017. This is just politics and I want to tell the police to stop being used. When I was at the police station I could hear phone calls coming from above asking if I had been arrested.”

“Jubilee has politicians who spew hate more than us beginning with the deputy president and Duale but you will never see them arrested.”

His release comes hours after he was arrested and taken to the Homa Bay police station where he recorded a statement over hate mongering.

Junet made the announcement of his arrest on Twitter but did not say why he had been arrested.

His case will be heard on October 24.
